Many Such Takes: JD Vance Edits, Womanly Man Cave, Anora, Steak N Shake
The most unhinged discourse of the week, always free.
Welcome to Many Such Takes! For those unfamiliar, this is a free weekly segment (I also do lots of other stuff!) For Many Such Takes, I stay up to date with the latest and most chaotic Twitter (and now BlueSky) discourse so you don’t have to. If you see yourself featured here and you don’t like it, simply send me a Substack message and I will happily remove, no matter who you are or what you said.
For previous issues of Many Such Takes, see this tab on my main page.
First, happy official Irish-American Heritage Month! 1/32nd of me is so thrilled right now—not because my ancestors are being properly honored but because Trump has, regrettably, brought us a new banger, on par with “the wettest we’ve seen from the standpoint of water.”
Presenting: “You’re not supposed to like them, but you have to like them.”
JD Vance Edits
If you’ve logged onto Twitter even once this week, you’ve probably seen a bunch of weird edits of Vice President JD Vance. At first, I’ll be honest, I didn’t find them that funny, but over time they’ve grown on me.
For some reason this one was my favorite, and probably always will be. It’s gotten to the point that I actually can’t picture JD Vance without just picturing this iteration:
The memes started with deliberately humiliating edits that were intended to make Vance look fatter, like a little boy, or like a woman. But they eventually became very wojak-y, with the intent of creating as many variants as possible:
Nobody was hit harder than a friend of mine, whose wife banned him from sending her the Vance edits, and allowed him to show her only one per day, on his phone:
My friend be like:
I’m trying to figure out why people love doing this to Vance so much specifically, and I’d say it’s for two reasons: people can tell he’s exactly the kind of guy who would be upset about these, and there’s a high likelihood that he’ll see them because he’s clearly very online.
As much as I hate to defend cyberbullying, these are too funny for me to condemn. Keep going.
Womanly Man Cave
This wasn’t a Main Character tier discourse topic, but that’s exactly why I wanted to include it, because I’m afraid you’d all miss it otherwise.
An interior decorating account called “INTERIOR PORN” posted some photos of a man cave that was very clearly designed by a woman, complete with millennial gray plush couches:
Anora
There are a few discourse topics I basically never touch because I don’t feel informed enough to talk about them, or I know whatever opinion I have will offend at least 25% of the people involved. I would say that sex worker talk is one of those things. With zero sex work experience and limited knowledge of the topic, I just don’t feel like anyone needs to hear my takes. But anyway, this week Twitter was full of sex work discourse after Anora (a movie that featured a sex worker main character) swept the Oscars.
I don’t even know what to make of this discourse, but basically, Anora offended people who were pro-sex-work by being too disparaging of sex work, but also offended the anti-sex work people for “glorifying” sex work. Ahahahaha. Yes. YES!!!
When Anora star Mikey Madison accepted her award, she thanked the sex work community and claimed to be an “ally” which further inflamed the discourse.
And of course, some tweets were just plain funny:
Steak N Shake
Okay, maybe this is my lib-brained self speaking, but I couldn’t help but notice Steak N Shake’s latest (now deleted) tweet seemed a little Hitlery?
Don’t get me wrong- I have a feeling it’s not intentional. But I think it’s the combo of the vaguely militaristic logo (which on its own looks fine, and has been the company logo for a while) juxtaposed with the Germanic font and the whole beef tallow thing which is very far-right-coded. It’s also entirely possible that I spend way too much time perusing right wing Twitter for my content and my brain is just completely cooked at this point. However, I feel vindicated that I wasn’t the only one who noticed!
Take from
of :Officially though, I think it was an accident and I’ll still eat there. Also, a few Hitler Understanders told me that this font was actually not frankfur (aka, the Hitler font) but moreover, that Hitler was actually the one who discouraged the use of frakfur because he wanted a font that would more seamlessly spread propaganda across languages. Well, I wasn’t expecting to get a history lesson out of a Steak N Shake tweet, but you never know!
Funny Tweets/Other Happenings
Right wing thirst trap influencer Isabella Maria DeLuca posted a video of her eating rare steak with her hands for some reason:
Where the yummy cheese at?
I 100% have a guy friend who would put his man cave together like this. He’s the most meticulous man I’ve ever met. You could go move everything on his dresser 2 inches to the left and the next time he passed it would move everything back without even acknowledging anything.
“Wow that’s a great Ad Bob, we should run it, it’s cool and very bro coded.”
“Yeah, I think the font and the logo might be suggestive to some people though”
“Oh, like who, THE JEWS?”
Scene.
