"If you’re not wondering this by now, then something is obviously wrong with you..."

You know, in this case I'm perfectly okay with having something wrong with me. I was not wondering that. In 55+ years up to this point in my life I have spent exactly zero seconds thinking about gay gorilla sex. Now, thanks to this, that number is no longer zero. With any luck I can keep it in the single digits. (The rest of the article though, very interesting!)

Oh my God - I am still laughing, and wondering why Jane Goodall never told us about this!

Jane Goodall was the chimps lady, you might be thinking about Dian Fossey?

There’s a lot Jane Goodall didn’t emphasize about chimpanzees.

Once while I was observing (ahem) elk mating rituals in Rocky Mountain National Park, I spotted a dominant male sprinting around a pasture rounding up his female harem. Meanwhile, a lazy-seeming bull reclined nearby, nibbling on the grass. Once the dominant male chased one of “his” females far enough off, the lazy guy leapt to his hooves, found a horny female, and they went at it enthusiastically. Baby elk, new clever DNA! It was Real Housewives of RMNP, in real time before me.

So, I have one question (perhaps already answered) and a comment. The question is how often do males in all-male groups who engage in "homosexual" activity later turn to heterosexual activity? I think you're answer is that it does happen. I just don't know how often. IOW, what I'm asking is whether male gorilla "homosexuals" are homosexual in the sense that humans appear to be, viz., that they prefer homosexual sex over heterosexual regardless of opportunity. You make no mention of gorilla lesbianism.

The comment is that it seems that all-male gorilla groups are acting essentially the same as what happens with incarcerated males.

you write in the inner monologue of mark corrigan from peep show (highest form of compliment). you would love robert sapolsky's (primatologist and human behavioral psychology) lectures and podcast. also there is extensive juicy drama in the realm of teaching apes language, how to speak and sign. koko the gorilla was a fraud but there's so much more to it.

Read it. I agree that we can always use more input from that great psychologist/philosopher Cardi B!

Now I see that you also brought in Sippie Wallace and Denise Lasalle to weigh in on this - I’m impressed!
