Trying something new this week (and apologies for the late post!)
This is the first issue of CHH personals ads! If you’d like to be considered for the next round, you can read the instructions here, although if you’ve already submitted, rest assured you could still be featured in a future round (I don’t know how often I’ll do these- maybe every two weeks or so?) So hang tight! Being featured in the column is a benefit to paid subscribers only, but viewing the column is free.
The personals ads do NOT discriminate based on age, race, or sexuality, in any direction. I also do not discriminate on looks, so if you aren’t chosen it has nothing to do with your suitability as a partner or your attractiveness. I simply can’t choose everyone because I want this to be a fairly curated group and not an endless scroll.
Last point: please remember to be respectful in the comments, and with any notes you send to the singles. It takes a lot of courage to put yourself out there, so please be nice! Compliments are great, but also keep them appropriate. For example, “Charlie is super cute and looks fun, if I were in Austin I’d hit him up!” but not “I would do unspeakable things to Charlie.”
If you are on the fence about reaching out, REACH OUT! I will only keep doing these if the singles are getting any traction from them!
Breanna, 24
Location: Dallas, TX (not open to long-distance)
Interested in: Men age 21-30
Occupation: software engineer (does modeling and tutoring on the side)
More about her: Breanna is really interested in film and film studies. She loves classic films, especially Tarkovsky or Cassavetes. She likes concerts, museums, bar hopping and—unsurprisingly—classic film screenings. She’s looking for someone who shares her values of open-mindedness and curiosity, and ideally a love of the arts. She also enjoys tennis, fashion, and writing.
Religious and/or Political views: She prefers a Christian partner but this is not mandatory, and she has a preference for left-leaning or moderate political views. Overall she describes herself as politically open.
Future Dreams: She wants 1-2 children. She describes her dream setup as “a spacious colonial on the East coast (or Chicago!), a stone's throw from a classic, bustling coastal enclave, like Cambridge, Park Avenue, or Georgetown. When not travelling the world, weeks would be spent discovering new restaurants (Japanese and Italian are the best!), pursuing our creative hobbies, and going to the theatre!”
How to contact her: You can reach her by emailing 18breannawhite@gmail.com or sending a DM to breannaonline on X.
Lana, 36
Location: New York City, but she is open to a long-distance relationship in another major metro area, especially because she is self-employed, fully remote and has nearly unlimited miles.
Interested in: Men, age 28-45, preferably living in any major city
Occupation: She works fully remote on an ecommerce business that she runs. She also writes a Substack, which you can find here.
More about her: She says the only physical attribute she really cares about is a handsome face. Otherwise, she likes entrepreneurially-minded, curious people (examples: creative pursuits, startups, or tech.) She loves food adventures and exploring the world through cuisine. She is a Harvard grad, who enjoys anything Nathan Fielder and loves to stop to pet dogs. She describes herself as 70% homebody, and 30% loving going out.
Future Dreams: She is open to having kids, but would also be fine not having them. Her ideal setup would be “having 1-2 home bases and traveling 3-4 months out of the year together. Renovate a converted factory loft in NYC. Start business projects together.”
Religious and/or Political views: She is agnostic and has liberal-moderate political views (she did not say that either of these things were required in a partner.)
How to contact her: You can reach her at lana@idea-glue.com or her IG is lanalingboli.
Ellery, 29
Location: Charleston, South Carolina (open to long distance if the other person is willing to travel for her and vice versa.)
Interested in: Men, ages 25-38. She is 5’8” and prefers men taller than her.
Occupation: She is a writer who is working on getting her suspense debut novel published. She also serves as the Director of Development for an anti-human trafficking nonprofit that supports some of the world’s most marginalized communities, especially women and girls.
More about her: She is passionate about animals and the planet. She likes cooking, painting, sailing, hiking, trying new restaurants, and exploring new places. She describes herself as a mix of practical and romantic. She’s one of five siblings. She is looking for someone who loves life, believes in the goodness of other people, and has a generous spirit.
Future Dreams: She wants to build a family. She describes her ideal setup as “A cozy little house by the water, full of light, with old trees, lots of flowers, and plenty of space to host friends—outside in the summer, by a big fireplace in the living room in the winter. Hopefully a few dogs roaming around and maybe some chickens. A beautiful, rooted life with room to still travel and explore.”
Religious and/or Political views: She is deeply spiritual and practices contemplative Christianity. She is also politically progressive. She values humility and joy, and doesn’t like cynics.
How to contact her: Her Substack is below. You can also find her on Instagram at @elleryfrost
Nick, 30
Location: Atlanta, Georgia (somewhat open to long distance if there’s a spark)
Interested in: Women, anywhere from 21-33
Occupation: Finishing up his fourth year in his doctorate in neuroscience. He is trying to figure out if he wants to continue neuroscience in academia, or work in medicine.
More about him: He isn’t specific about looks, but wants a partner who is comfortable with her femininity. He is also looking for someone who “appreciates some amount of intellectual discussion, whether it be about how parts of the world work, opinions about aesthetics or art, mulling about philosophy, talking about books, or another topic of passion that drives you.” He has two cats, and loves pets in general. He describes himself as direct and passionate, but doesn’t take himself too seriously. He loves music and plays piano, but he’s more interested in playing music or enjoying music at home than going to concerts.
Religious and/or Political views: He’s not religious, but is open to someone who is. He also doesn’t discriminate on politics, but he describes himself as a left-leaning moderate with a few conservative views.
Future Dreams: He wants at least two kids. Being a good father someday is important to him. He is not travel-oriented, and instead prefers to build a great community and life where he is. He isn’t terribly interested in luxury, but having spent most of his life living frugally, he looks forward to a future where he can treat his spouse and family.
How to contact him: email is best (nick.schappaugh@gmail.com)
Nye, 24
Location: Didcot, Oxfordshire, England. Not open to long distance unless there’s a major spark.
Interested in: For romance, women (cis and trans) no age dealbreakers if there’s chemistry, although he generally prefers women his age or younger and shorter than him. He is also open to meeting platonic friends in general.
Occupation: His family is in the financial position to support him (including his ability to provide for a partner.) He was considering becoming an academic historian but is now thinking about a career path as a freelance historian.
More about him: He loves history, including prehistory (although he specifies “as little dinosaurs as possible.”) He has lots of hobbies and interests. He enjoys research and collecting memorabilia (vinyls, theoretically genuine autograph cards) related to his favorite music (which is typically a mix of traditional and modern music, especially German and Hungarian.) He also enjoys cooking (“I can make pretty decent pasta, biscuits and roasts from scratch”) and exercising (“I wish to be neither vain nor vainy from my running and lifting.”) He has autism and is working with a professional to improve his anxiety and self-worth (CHH note: I think submitting to this column is a big step there!)
Religious and/or Political views: Generally leftist. He expands: “I’m still recovering from a former life as a conservative. While I side with the left with most of the hot button progressive causes (Palestine, trans rights, some form of redistribution etc.), my tastes have remained inconveniently as they were before and I need to develop a deeper understanding of the issues and solutions, and greater initiative to help others.”
Future Dreams: He doesn’t want children. He’s still working on what his dream setup would be. “It's hard to know what one wants when you feel like you haven't lived your best life yet, when what's familiar is both comforting and stifling. Ultimately if I could find my people, I'd want to stay around them whether in a metropolis or a hamlet.” Thinking more short-term, he would like to travel more (“currently considering a trip to Hungary in March.”)
How to contact him: Although he is using this feature to meet a long-term romantic partner, he is also open to meeting platonic friends of any gender, so contact him by email at nhughes2ndry@gmail.com
Amar, 29
Location: Orange County, California
Interested in: Women, age 25-33, local to OC
Occupation: R&D engineer in the medical device field, and has been in the field for the past 7 years
More about him: He submitted to this column because he is trying to say “yes” to more things. His ideal partner is vegan (or at least “veg-curious”.) He values meeting a woman who is funny, kind, intelligent and possibly has a few similar interests. So what are his interests? He loves animals, reading, rock climbing and volunteering. He calls his mom regularly to ask how she’s doing, and also enjoys going out with friends. He enjoys rewatching his favorite shows, which include Community and 30 Rock. He is also a very good chef and would be interested in cooking for a partner.
Religious and/or Political views: He is politically liberal, and veganism (for animal welfare reasons) is important to him. He isn’t religious, but is reading the Bible because he’s curious about its impact on Western literature.
Future Dreams: His dream life is “a quiet one. It involves me coaching rock climbing at my local gym, volunteering more at the local animal sanctuary/dog rescue (I go once a week right now to each, but it's not enough!!), and reading books on warm OC beaches (some recent favorites include - Pride and Prejudice, Frankenstein, and Siddhartha. If you have any recommendations, feel free to drop me a line).”
How to contact him: You can email Amar at amarthebummer@gmail.com (his name is pronounced like “bummer without the b,” hence the funny email alias.)
I’d love to hear from you guys about the following pieces of feedback:
1.) Would you have preferred more, fewer or is this a good amount of singles?
2.) How often do you want to see the personals columns published? (I’m thinking every 2 weeks.)
Honestly kudos to all of the participants for putting themselves out there; I wish them all the best!
She did it. The son of a bitch did it.
I can’t believe it!
