I went to a fancy law school that was full of old and new money alike and have to say I never observed a consistent “look”, except that a lot of them didn’t show up to class.
As a recovering prep school kid these do/don’t comparisons are just like “Doctor’s first wife vs. doctor’s second wife” somewhere circa Santa Barbara or Rye. It seems like they’re using old money to mean “got rich at least 30 years ago” rather than anything to do with what country club your great grandfather was a member of.
The one real *old money* person I’ve met - think titled member of a European royal family who grew up in a chateau - basically dressed like Dwight Schrute. Make of that what you will, tiktok teens.
The short answer is that of you're thinking at all about what other people are thinking of you, you ain't it. If it's got a "label" or an "influencer", or a "look", you're not it. The whole exercise is "not done".
I went to school with old money and they truly do dress terribly, but I have no desire to emulate them. I don’t dress the greatest either- because at this point in my life I value other things more, but aspiring to look old money is just as silly and time and mental energy wasting as any other keeping up with the Jones effort.
Eh these days the junior nobility have socials so you can see what they wear. Same for the younger members of the 19th century business founders family set

As a British person … the photos of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are, indeed, what the style looks like.
William in the one on the left especially.

Not comme if faut, as one says.
