There Are Only So Many Women To Go Around
Fantasies of polygamy and male-only promiscuity before marriage leave out one crucial detail: there isn't an endless supply of women.
I’ve done a lot of surveys and interviews with single men, and despite the stereotypes about men wanting a bottomless harem of virgins, most guys are pretty normal. They want a girlfriend or wife, with whom they have intense mutual attraction. But I recently discovered a new Type of Guy—the Christian guy who cheats on his wife and now makes it part of his religion:
The full video (I’m not including the name of the influencer because I don’t want to start a pile-on even if we disagree) includes this line in the caption: “But here’s the problem: the game is rigged against them. Why would men sign up for a system that’s set up for them to lose? Before we invite more men to play, we need to get the rules of the game straight.”
Okay, so help me understand. The “game” is rigged against men because it’s not empowering them to have five bitches at once? Dude, most guys can’t even get one! If you begin “normalizing” polygyny through Christianity (not even touching the theology component of this) how does that benefit most men?" Or even a slight majority of men? Do you realize there are….only so many available women to go around? As I’ve written about before, a lot of women would prefer to just stay single than lower their standards, and the solution to "un-rig” the game is to have the top-tier men hoarding even more ass?
Arguably, this is just the religious version of the now-reviled concept of “hookup culture” wherein a small subset of commitment-averse Chads have soft harems full of women, while a large percentage of men (anywhere from 40-80%) don’t get any female affection at all. I don’t think this is an accurate representation of the current state of affairs. I wrote about that too—our concept of “hookup culture” is driven by 2010s-era media and (potentially sex work related) viral TikToks, not reality. Most men today aren’t competing with Chad, they’re competing with Phone. But regardless of whether you think this is happening in any meaningful way, I think it’s safe to say this setup either isn’t, or wouldn’t be, good for most men.
But no—apparently if we do this, except with Christianity behind it, it’ll finally un-rig the game against men, who are oppressed by the Church’s restriction on having hoes in different area codes. Never mind that this would leave the vast majority of men with nary a hoe at all.
