The Men's Bodies Women Like--And Prefer
I had thousands of women rate 14 digitally-generated male bodies. Here's what I found about the men they'd be willing to date, and the men they consider ideal.
A while ago, I ran a survey with almost 3,000 respondents and asked participants to rate digitally-generated, headless body types (Not sexy sounding enough for you? It gets better: they were blue and sans genitalia.) Respondents were given three options based on a hypothetical scenario where they were single and given the option to date someone with that body. They could say yes or no, and then say “this is my type” if that particular body perfectly aligned with their ideal preferences. When putting body preferences into practice, it’s worthwhile to understand the ideal, but also good to understand what people are likely to accept, even if not given their number one choice.
I released some of my findings on women’s bodies a while back, mostly in response to an article about looksmaxxing for women. The Internet has failed to give me a viral jumping off point to discuss men’s bodies, but I just figured it was time. Men’s bodies may not be as hotly debated as women’s, but people still debate them, especially in the context of whether or not women are lying about preferring dad bods to bodybuilders, or whether a skinny guy like Timothee Chalamet would appeal to more women than a more muscular, broad physique like that of Jason Momoa. And of course, I hear from women all the time that most women’s “ideal” man is Jack Black—but is that just because he’s funny? Would they find him hotter if he was funny and fit?
First, the most attractive male body in the dataset was this one:
