The deal is: Zoomers are inside-out Victorians (they sure love talking about sex scandals, but not really having them)... Harry Sisson is the Zoomer equivalent of Lord Byron, I guess. To each generation, their own bad boy.
"One thing I’m noticing about Gen Z sex scandals (speaking broadly of course) is that the always require a very lengthy explanation of what happened, because what actually happened isn’t bad enough to fit in an elevator pitch"
I'm laughing and laughing here because I'm in the middle of "I have some questions for you" by Rebecca Makkai, which has a whole big plot point about a Gen Z sex scandal which requires a very lengthy explanation of what happened because etc
For GenZ, "Sex Surveillance" on one hand and red pilled cheering of DOGE on the other side is so hilarious but yeah, like you said in the article, "let sex be normal" and don't make a big deal about it feels the most right thing to do at the same time...
like I feel both sides have made "I'm a victim of sex" their identity - maybe we need "Abundance" book for sex lol
Also, I thought this type of parallel dating has been more normalized with dating app and 11 is def a lot but not too crazy of a number - I personally thought that trend was very draining and not for me but also don't think it deserves a mass hysteria lol
It's a long shot but you should try to interview Cassie the Cocaine Bananas Lady! She's an intermittent Main Character on Twitter, which is very much your brand. Plus ever since the cocaine bananas incident I've been impressed by how nearly all her takes are thoughtful, well-reasoned, and pragmatic.
Harry's being a "fuckboy" for sure, and I do think that's bad behavior, but seeing some of the Me Too era language used to describe this situation you'd think he could be lumped in with Weinstein or Cosby. Zoomer discourse could use a lot more nuance and gray area than the hard line good/bad bad.
Also, not to minimize any pain these girls are feeling, but you really thought you were exclusive with the famous tiktoker you've never actually met? *555-Come-On-Now meme*
The morning routine guy cracked me up because my husband gets up at 2:30am. I know he does some sit-ups, reads bbc news, fights with the cats, and makes my lunch (so nice). But the other 2 1/2 hrs I have no idea. I don’t think he’s rubbing banana peel on his face but tbh I can’t completely rule that out.
I saw someone comment that the one thing these OPTIMAL MORNING ROUTINE videos all have in common is the complete absence of other human beings. Not even a wife or girlfriend. Too sub-optimal. In this video the woman who probably filmed the whole thing doesn't show up until the last five seconds.
So I haven't seen the daily routine video but seems like it was likely done as parody??
As a Millennial I find GenZ to be increasingly infuriating but I can always be consoled that my generation is much bigger in number; they will be the GenX to our Boomers for all their days.

So does that mean he's going to go to Kursidstan and die of TB?
One can only hope

Zoomers are way too sensitive and puritanical. It’s kinda chilling, if they didn’t also manage to be so comical about it.
yeah, like I guess millenials were sensitive and puritanical about capitalism but Gen Z has expanded that field even sex...

We are mutuals! I really like her. Maybe I’ll reach out
Please do. I have no idea who this person is but you had me at "banana/cocaine socialist lady."

Showing my age but I wish gen z girls would realize just because a boy sent you a nice message doesn’t mean he deserves to see u naked.
IDK, I think you occupy a different, if complimentary, lane than Yglesias
I agree, but I thought it was a nice compliment, since he’s so talented
🤢

That morning routine video has to be some kind of ad/satire, but I’ll say this: anyone who voluntarily wakes up that early is psychopath.

"They will be the genX to our Boomers for all their days" is strangely comforting.
I thought ACAB meant “Assigned Cat At Birth”, some kind of Furry thing.
tbf, I mistook it for "Assigned Cop at Birth" for the longest time
I think some people sorta are this, to be fair.

JFC the 'teachers are cops actually' people are exhausting.
Kinda fully agreed that teachers are bastard cops though… I have to ask permission to piss! Outrageous.
In their defense the Kids These Days are now breaking all of the school toilets because of TikTok trends.
Holy shit! Harry is straight?
I thought ACAB meant Assigned Cat at Birth, TIL
