The Whitmer situation is what happens when your staffers overestimate the general public’s familiarity with all of the latest Tiktok memes. As a rule of thumb, I think if a politician is considering making a video playing on a current meme, they should first ask whether the clip would make sense to someone who is unfamiliar with the meme and whether there’s a reasonable possibility that it could be misinterpreted.
As basically a senior citizen, I thought it was a play on the sadistic milk woman from Twitter and was like WHAT ON EARTH IS THIS? Aren't you supposed to be legislating something? If you want to do lesbian food play that's fine but I'm not sure if it should be on the taxpayer's dime!
Not to be a cliche Midwesterner, but Tim Walz is an actual hunter, as in he has had a license for years and goes hunting. JD Vance posed with a gun. They are not the same. I can't speak to the intricacies as to how Walz held the gun in these photos, but I'm going with... it doesn't really matter.
I don't know about the intricacies of Walz' hunting license, but I did see a photo of him the other day where he was 'hunting' or something of the sort.
In the photo he had his gun pointed up and his finger firmly wrapped around the trigger.
Anyone who has experience with guns should know that this is a pretty big no-no, as it's a good way to accidentally discharge your firearm and possibly shoot someone in the face (lookin at you, dick cheney).
Really... it's like the first rule of gun safety. Don't put your finger on the trigger until you're ready to shoot. And Tim Walz blatantly failed that rule.
So I mean.. idk. Maybe he does go hunting all the time or whatever, and he's just kind of a nincompoop, that's certainly possible. But somebody needs to get the man a safety instructor. Or he should just stay home instead or something.
Edit: for anyone curious, here is a photo of what I'm talking about.
Also not sure why this was on C-Span. that's weird. Lol. Anyways
A. You understand Trump better, perhaps, than Trump understands himself.
B. There remains the question of whether our friend Saeko intentionally chose a name that, to an American, could reasonably be pronounced as “psycho”, and what subtext does *that* invite…?
Shout out to the unlocked Trump post, which (as I commented originally) is the funniest thing I’ve read in a while and I will now share with as many people as I can to spread the joy.
I went to a US restaurant once with some Japanese people where the waitress's name tag was "Katsuko". They all thought it was fake and started gossiping about it. So I guess they might care. (Not because of cultural appropriation but because Saeko and Katsuko are both old fashioned grandma names.)
This shook loose a memory of mine: the only annoying experience I got repeatedly while waiting tables at an Asian fusion restaurant was that some older white customers would say "You're not Asian!" when I came to take their order. Their tone suggested they thought it was a joke I would enjoy.
I was speechless the first time. After that I just said "That's true. The owners are Taiwanese."

Don't do this, people!

…Turned out she understood them though.

If I were the therapist I'd be going with Psycho, and that's why I'm not a therapist.
