Back when Trump first won in 2016, lib institutions were sending consoling emails and telling people it was okay to take the day off and shit. Older doctors at the hospital were trolling me about it. And Even yesterday, I know an Ivy League school bought pizza to placate their students and confront their election depression.
I kinda think it’s part of the problem. We need to toughen up. We need resolve. We need to not be pussys. We need to post dumb shit even after getting destroyed by some sassy senile totalitarian from Queens
I saw a tweet that said “‘Look for the helpers’ is advice for children you fucking babies. You need to sack up and become the helper.” It was honestly the best take I’ve seen in eight years.
I don't think it's about toughness, it's about what actually helps. I think for 99% of us, things don't change dramatically in ways that matter whether or not our chosen candidate wins. It's better to just acknowledge that we're sad, and it was crazy what happened, but it doesn't actually change things all that much in the short term. Yeah let's hang out and whine, but that's the extent of it. What you suggest is "yes it sucks, suck it up", what I'm saying is "it doesn't actually suck, maybe try some cognitive behavioral therapy".
I think it's toxic on the part of political candidates and activists to make every election into this life-or-death scenario, when it very plainly is not.
Also I don't suppose people working minimum wage or customer service jobs are allowed to take time off at those same institutions for these excuses lol.
I mean, people working low-level jobs will just call in sick or switch shifts with someone. If you mean this in the sense that a lot of people who earn $10/hour really need that $10/hour, then sure, but that's a commentary on how being poor sucks and little else.
Otherwise, you're really really understating the impact that politics has on people's lives. Tens of millions of people get insurance through the ACA, which could be repealed or gutted. RFK Jr. is talking about all sorts of insane public health measures like not approving new vaccines or banning fluoride in water. These are fairly basic public policy matters that will certainly be life-or-death for some people. Abortion bans are plainly life-or-death. A close friend had an ectopic pregnancy a bunch of years ago, and she easily could've died from that if she were in a state that banned abortions. And that's to say nothing of the real totalitarian shit that Trump has promised.
It's true that there are lots of people who follow politics essentially as a hobby, and it might be better for their mental health not to do that. But this stuff _is_ very consequential, so it's hardly irrational to be upset by it.
As I understand it, it's now up to the states and nothing can be done by any presidential candidate about abortion. Also there were idk, 40 years to codify Roe v Wade into law, and that didn't happen. As it stands there isn't even an executive order about it. What will the same party in power do about it?
With the ACA, didn't that ruin things for people in some ways as well when it came into effect? Big changes can't be without downsides and that's why they are hotly debated by representatives.
Also as someone who had been very terrified of ectopic pregnancies, I spoke to obgyns (in California and Florida) about them in great detail and what I was told is it's not the same thing as an abortion according to law and it's never going to be illegal.
To my final point, are those institutions paying the wages of hourly workers even if they take time off to recover from the elections?
You're missing a lot of the issues around abortion policy. But the point is that Trump appointed judges who reversed Roe, and as a result women have died. Life-or death.
The ACA improved insurance for everyone who had it and provided insurance to quite a lot of people who didn't have it. I can't really think of a scenario where it "ruined things," though I guess "ruin" is a subjective term. If someone had an insurance policy that was really really cheap because it was worthless, and that policy was no longer legal to offer, the law was disruptive. But it's overwhelmingly likely that they were eligible for better insurance at an affordable price.
If you repeal the ACA, which the Republicans/Trump came within one vote in the Senate of doing back when Trump was president the first time, then tens of millions of people will lose their insurance. Life-or-death.
Re: ectopic pregnancies, this was the first Google hit I found after taking a few seconds to type out a search:
To your final point, as I said, that's a "being poor really sucks and is really hard" issue, and it doesn't say much about anything else.
I'm not sure if your point is that you like Trump? If not, I'm not sure why you're invested in trying to declare all these things (and you did not address RFK's pending public health disaster) not a big deal. Politics is quite consequential. It's hardly irrational to be upset.
I have been happy with your regular programming mix and see no reason to change it, though I think you could be excused if you need a brief break for yourself as your posting volume is kind of unreal. I will riot if you skip a many such takes though.
Don't change what you're doing. If people don't feel like reading fluff right now they can save it for another time, but for many people humor is great escapism
I am not a lib, but I do enjoy your writing. You should post what you want. Election results should not take away anyone's sense of humor or the ability to enjoy it.
Do your thing. IMHO you are fascinating. I can’t stop reading your posts because I feel like you’re ME…Except I’m conservative? So glad you popped up in my Twitter algorithm. I want to upgrade to paid if/when Trump improves the economy 😜
keep up with the stuff you were planning please. i'd love to read about your POV on young people's anxieties about having sex and children! besides, between my timeline and my friends, all im hearing about is despair post election so i would far prefer a little bit of humor instead of more somber content
I sorta think maybe you should reconsider your exit off of Twitter - the reach there is massive, and you shouldn't let the haters stifle the growth of this platform
I'm guessing you should keep posting your regular stuff and not worry about offending anyone. Leaning into the niche is a better strategy than trying to appeal to everyone, because people who really like you can give you money, but offended strangers cannot take it away - see point 5 in https://www.astralcodexten.com/p/why-do-i-suck (And in general, weird internet culture wars is what I'm here for).
I definitely appreciate the humor of CHH, but I’ve always been drawn to the topic selection more than anything else. To me, the appeal is how passionately you’re writing about things that other people aren’t writing about. Your enthusiasm sells me as much as the humor does. Right now, trust that if you’re interested, we’re interested.
I’d be interested in at least one real world/serious post. At the moment, distracting myself doesn’t really feel better. Also interested in the post on dating post-election
Just keep up with whatever you were planning, imo. I want distraction right now

Ditto
Thank you for your thoughtfulness. I enjoy your content and yes humor is good even in dark times.
Thank you so much, that’s exactly what I’m going for and it makes me so happy that you get something out of it
Do your thing. IMHO you are fascinating. I can’t stop reading your posts because I feel like you’re ME…Except I’m conservative? So glad you popped up in my Twitter algorithm. I want to upgrade to paid if/when Trump improves the economy 😜
Exactly how I feel! But I only voted for Trump because there was no one better. 😂 Still, hoping for the best, and I'll continue enjoying CHH.
I'm dying to read your views on r/godpussy
Coming this weekend!
While I’m sad about the result, this piece is sufficient for your worrying. 1 vote for regularly scheduled content!

Taking off yesterday was a good idea but the show must go on. Just stick to gooning.
The goon must go on
I sorta think maybe you should reconsider your exit off of Twitter - the reach there is massive, and you shouldn't let the haters stifle the growth of this platform
I’m not leaving twitter I just don’t wanna get into long debates on there anymore! Still terminally online
I don't think your audience is actually that lib, tbh
I’m going off my reader survey! The order of numbers of readers are:
Liberals
Centrists
Lean-right or leftists
Right wingers
(Obviously this doesn’t account for specific groups like libertarians.)
CHH is the epitome of "Read the Whole Article" liberalism. At least culturally.

Keep doing your thing. There's a thousand commentators out there talking politics, you don't need to join their ranks out of propriety.
You're hilarious and interesting and insightful precisely because you're not trend chasing.
Thank you so much ❤️❤️❤️
Ryan says it best!
Less typing for me.....
